Nigeria- Benue State University Shut Down Over Students Protest

Due to the ongoing protest by students in the institution who were refused from sitting for exams over non-payment
of tuition. The institution has been shut down.

The management of Benue State University, Makurdi on Friday, shut down the institution following students protest
over tuition fees.

The action of the students is connected with the management’s decision to prevent anyone yet to pay tuition fees from
sitting examination, which commenced on Monday.

The angry students blocked the Makurdi/Gboko Expressway, forcing motorists to make use of alternative routes.

Some of the students, who expressed anger, said they embarked on the protest to draw the attention of the school’s authorities to the prevailing economic situation in the state.

One student, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “How can they stop us from sitting examination just because
we cannot pay school fees? Our parents are yet to be paid for several months by the Benue State Government, so where do
they want us to get the fees from?”

Another student, James Abah, said that their leaders proposed to the university authorities to allow them take the
examination and pay the fees at the time of collecting their certificates but that their request was rejected.

Still waiting for more update on the matter.
